Oil Museum

The Oklahoma Oil Museum is located in the beautiful city of Seminole. We are open Monday thru Friday from 10 am t0 4 pm and Saturday from 11 am to 3 pm. Admission is $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for children.

MISSION STATEMENT

The primary mission of the Oklahoma Oil Museum is to collect, care for, exhibit, interpret and demonstrate times that will serve to illustrate the history of Oklahoma Oil. The Museum means to offer a more thorough understanding of the history of Oklahoma Oil in relationship to the history of other areas.

The Oklahoma Oil Museum will provide an educational learning facility for ages 6 years to senior citizen. The Museum will allow you to step back into the past and will provide insight in lives then and reminders that our history can be the door to the future and should never be closed. It will also allow you to step forward into the future and marvel at the yet to come advances in our daily lives and the opportunities ahead of us. This will allow all age groups to bond together the past, present and future.

PHILOSOPHY

The Seminole Historical Society strives to offer the past, present and future in visual programs that improve the intellectual, cultural, economic and moral environment of our society. Serving the citizens of Seminole County, Oklahoma and our nation as a whole. The Oklahoma Oil Museum will provide a positive and lasting cultural experience for thousands of people.

Tourists go through what was at one time the world's greatest oil field without so much as having it called to their attention, or without having an opportunity to see an oil well in operation.

PURPOSE

The primary purpose of The Oklahoma Oil Museumis to collect, care for, exhibit, interpret, and demonstrate items that will serve to illustrate the hsitory of the Oil industry in Oklahoma. To provide enjoyment plus passive and formal education opportunities for its visitors, facilitating an appreciation for and awareness of the role Oil played in the history of the Greater Seminole Area, Oklahoma and the nation.

The museum's collections contains items that best depict this history in terms of natural resources and history, exploration, settlement, agriculture, manufacturing, trade, transporation, education, and cultural and social development.

The secondary purpose of The Oklahoma Oil Museum is to collect, care for, exhibit, intepret, and demonstrate items of special interest that will serve to compliment the primary purpose and offer a more thorough understanding of the history of The Greater Seminole Area in relationship to the history of other areas. Items collected to fulfill this purpose shall conform to the purposes and procedures of the museum.

The Museum shall reserve the right to accept or reject donations according to their relevance to the history of the locale and limitations according to space. The Museum shall provide for the preservation of such materials that it accepts for its collection. The Museum shall also make such materials, as far as it is feasible, available for all who wish to study or examine them.

In addition, The Museum will disseminate historical information and arouse interest in the past by publishing historical information in the newspapers; by holding meetings, addresses, lectures, papers and commemorative events; and by using media to arouse public interest.

The Board of The Seminole Historical Society will also seek to cooperate and coordinate efforts with the State Historical Society in preserving and perpetuating the history of The Greater Seminole Area and the State of Oklahoma.
